Ana Maria Vascan
Position title: Research Specialist

Ana Maria Vascan is a Research Specialist. She has been working in neuroscience sleep research at UW Madison as the overnight lead since 2015. Ana Maria’s been involved in projects on meditation, Alzheimer’s, PTSD, hypersomnia, insomnia and depression, investigational psychedelics, and pediatric sleep apnea. Her interest in sleep science initially stemmed from her own struggles with insomnia and personal sleep experiments trying to understand what her brain was up to. This nevertheless helped her graduate from UW Madison with four full majors and has also served her well through many overnight experiments. When she’s not working, she spends her time reading, making art, teaching herself traditional handicrafts, and learning about the natural world with her partner, two cats, big white dog, goats, and chickens at their house in the woods. Sometimes, she even sleeps.
